AUDIO SYSTEMS

You can approach your event sound system many ways. Depending on your budget, you could purchase a simple all-inclusive starter PA or build a pro system from the ground up. You could also rent the entire audio/video package to test the waters first. If you can afford it, we suggest building an interchangeable rack system that will make it easier to upgrade specific components as your budget allows.

We have linked the following descriptions to an online "Amazon" style store called zzounds.com for professional audio gear. They have the best prices and we've been using them for years. Larger purchases qualify for free shipping right to your door. In addition, your valued purchase supports this network.

Amplifiers
These are used for your simple stereo setup. They can also be used in addition to a digital amp to increase the overall power of a system. We use extra amplifiers to power our subwoofers. Mackie is our brand of choice. Consider at least a 1400 watt amplifier.

Cables
All the cables you'll need to get started.

Digital Amplifier
The name speaks for itself and will give your audience the best possible sound experience. We currently use a professional digital amplifier that can rack into your system. You want to find the highest possible watts per channel. Make sure the unit has connections for additional amplifiers.

Microphones
We definitely prefer the wireless microphone. Nice for your master of ceremony to have freedom to roam the crowd. You can make announcements and have contests anywhere on the grounds.

Mixers
The brain that controls all your components. You'll tie in DVD players, microphones, and any other accessory-like game stations or computers here.

Power Conditioners
All equipment plugs into this to keep safe from surges. Get one with pull-out lights to make night operation easy. Put this on the top space of your rack.

Powered Mixers
Powered mixers are easiest if you're not interested in building a rack system. They come enclosed in their own cabinet that combines the amplifier and the mixer.

Rack Cases - (consider shock racks for ultimate protection)
The professional way to build your collection of mobile professional audio gear.
These durable cases provide you a choice of sizes to mount all your audio equipment.

Rack Hardware
Pick up a few shelves to attach your components such as DVD and CD players. A drawer in your rack is invaluable for all the little stuff you need to keep close at hand.

Speakers
The types of speakers you purchase depend on a few things. If you're doing surround sound, then obviously you'll need two fronts, two rears, a center and subwoofers. Powered speakers are a better way to go. We use 500 watt minimum peak power speakers. If you're going stereo, two powered speakers for your fronts will suffice. Don't forget speaker stands and cables.

Simple Starter PA's
Includes two speakers, powered mixer and, in some cases, cables, stands and microphone. This is the most economical way to meet your audio needs.
